Electronic Arts hints that something is in the works.
More hints and teases continue to pour in from E3. EA Games Label President Frank Gibeau admitted to Gamerzines that the unique first person parkour series Mirror's Edge was still a franchise in progress, despite the lack of mainstream acceptance for the title. With many commenting on the robust power of the Frostbite engine that is powering Battlefield 3, it was asked whether or not the developers, DICE would bring that same technology to their less popular series, Gibeau responded:
You'll see that combination, I'm sure. We haven't killed Mirror's Edge. We're actively looking at how to bring it back in the right way. We love that franchise. The DICE guys really created something I think special the first time around. You've got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one and that's what we're working on.
Mirror's Edge launched to mixed reviews, though few could criticize the originality of a game that emphasized acrobatics from the first person perspective that worked well once a certain "flow" was established. The original game was released in 2008, using the Unreal 3 engine.
